The constellation Virgo is associated with Virgo which also is an astrological sign. Virgo is occupied by the Sun from August 23 to September 22 under the tropical zodiac. However under the sidereal zodiac the Sun occupies Virgo from September 17 to October 17. Pisces is opposite to Virgo in the zodiac belt. This is also the only sign that is represented by the female.

Based on one interpretation, the constellation Virgo is a depiction of Astraea, the virgin daughter of the god Zeus and the goddess Themis. Astraea is said to be the Goddess of justice and was identified as this constellation due to the presence of the Scales - Libra in its vicinity. She is supposed to have ruled the world with her wise ways. She returned in disgust to the skies once mankind had become extremely callous.
